About Niña Dioz - Topic
Niña Dioz has grown accustomed to breaking barriers. Having broken into Mexico’s predominantly male Hip-Hop scene as the first openly queer rapper, she is now looking towards establishing herself in the U.S.
Born Carla Reyna in Monterrey, an old lady at a coffee shop dubbed her as “la niña dios” at random, saying that she looked like the baby Jesus. Soon after, accompanied by extravagant beats and a unique style of delivering her lyrics, she became one of the most exciting performers in Mexico’s scene. That earned her the respect of her peers, collaborating with international artists such as Toy Selectah, Shigeto, Brooke Candy, Bad Royale and Bomba Estereo’s Li Saumet to name a few.
Most recently, she was selected as part of the Smirnoff Sound Collective, teaming up with MixMag to promote diversity in electronic music and culture as a female, multi-cultural artist.
Her new single, “Tambalea,” marks a new beginning for Niña as she is in a place where she feels fully comfortable to share her truth unapologetically. Ceci Bastida and Lido Pimienta joined forces on the empowering anthem, dedicated to women and marginalized people everywhere in the era of the #MeToo movement and Donald Trump.
Niña Dioz recently completed recording her most exciting project to date, working with producers such as Shigeto, Scoop Deville (Kendrick Lamar), Captain Planet and Futura (A$AP Mob) to be released by Nacional Records, home to classic releases of one of her personal heroes: Ana Tijoux.
