Manchester has always been the birthplace for revolutionary ideas. It was the centre of the industrial revolution. It is the home of the world’s first railway and where Britain’s first canal was built. It was here in 2004, at The University of Manchester, that Sir Andre Geim and Sir Kostya Novoselov first isolated graphene and discovered the vast range of qualities it possessed.
