About Srikanta Acharya - Topic
Srikanto Acharya primarily sings contemporary Bengali songs reflecting the ethos of his times as well steeped in the rich musical heritage of the past. He received formal training in Rabindra Sangeet from Dakshinee. He also took training in tabla, his first love, from Ustad Ali Ahmad Khan for a brief period. Overall, he has learnt his music from avid listening of all kinds of music and in this sense; he is essentially a self-taught musician.
Srikanto Acharya started his career as a professional singer in 1996. Since then he has released a number of albums of basic Bengali, Rabindra Sangeet and Devotional songs that have fetched him accolades and awards ….. ‘Platinum and Gold discs,’ ‘Best Puja Album’ and ‘Top Selling Bengali Album’ awards to mention a few. He has also lent his voice for films made by renowned directors like Mrinal Sen, Rituparno Ghosh, Anjan Datta and Srijt Mukherjee.
Significantly, Srikanta’s song in Rituparno Ghosh’s film Titli fetched him the best male playback singer award from Bengal Film Journalists’ Association in 2003.
Srikanto has also hosted extremely popular Bengali Television and Radio Shows, acted in Radio and on-stage plays and composed music for other artistes and theater productions.
