Ice Boat Foundation

The Ice Boat Foundation was organized as a non-profit (501c3) organization in January 2016 with the mission to purchase, restore and preserve significant iceboats. The iceboats in our collection carry the stories of classic Midwest iceboating and Madison’s role in this great sport to lakes and cities across Wisconsin as we preserve these pieces of sporting history. Our flagship, Mary B, was first set up on the frozen surface of Lake Mendota in March 1948. During her racing career she won every major iceboating regatta, time and time again. In the 1950s and 60s, hundreds of spectators came out on the ice to watch the Mary B notch another victory, cementing the connection between championship iceboaters and Madison.
