Sunstar Americas, Inc., formerly the John O. Butler Company, was founded in 1923 by Dr. John O. Butler, a leading U.S. periodontist. The company was founded on the principle of creating clinically designed and supported products to address periodontal disease and overall dental health conditions.

In 1988 the company was purchased by Sunstar Inc., and a synergistic partnership was formed between two companies sharing the same dedication to the dental professional. Sunstar was one of the worlds first to initiate global discussions on the relationship between oral health and overall personal wellness.
