In the United States The Department Of Health & Human Services patent cannabis in 1999 as antioxidants and neuroprotectants. See US patent US6630507. HHS claims cannabinoids are "useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory & autoimmune diseases."
