Mit Beginn der Produktion im August 1966 bringt die Adam Opel AG einen in der Karosserie völlig neuen Rekord, das Modell Rekord "C".
Dieser etwas wuchtig, elegant wirkende Rekord ist in der Luxusausführung 29 mm länger und 4-türig 68 mm breiter als sein Vorgänger. Die Rekord "C" Coupe-Version erscheint jetzt mit stufenlosem Heck als sogenanntes "Fastback-Coupe".
Um den jetzt noch bestehenden Zwischenraum in der Größenordnung zwischen Rekord "C" und Kapitän in geeigneter Weise auszufüllen, folgte dem Rekord "C" im Januar 1967 das Modell Commodore "A" als 2-türige und 4-türige Limousine sowie als Coupe.
Der Commodore ist dem Rekord in der Karosserie im allgemeinen gleich.
