حصل على بكالوريوس معهد السينما بعام 1991 بدأ عمله في أدوار صغيرة في السينما أولها في فيلم إسكندرية ليه وفي المسرح، حقق نجاح كبير في فيلميه إسماعيلية رايح جاى وصعيدي في الجامعة الأمريكية، وفي نهاية تسعينيات القرن العشرين استطاع من خلال دور صغير في فيلم بخيت وعديلة أن يثبت نفسه في الساحة الفنية وما لبث ان صار نجمًا تحقق افلامه أعلى الإيرادات، قام بالغناء في افلامه بعد أن نجحت أغنية «كامننا» مع الفنان محمد فؤاد.
