Shayan - Topic

Farzana Wahid,commonly known as Shayan by the people who appreciates her music. Shayan writes, tunes and sings her own songs , which she considers as a life saving practice from a very early age , and prefers to sing with a purpose which she finds more rewarding and satisfying . She finds her stories to make a song from the life she leads , from the characters she is surrounded by, and intends

to convey a plea, or a prayer, or a protest to the fellow people she sings to.

She published her first album “shayaner gaan” in 2008, and her second release was a double album containing two cds “abar takiye daakh” and “ shopno amar haat dhoro”, in 2009. After that she stopped releasing albums, and worked on different projects with various human rights organizations , composing songs for them that dealt with specific issues , and prefers to sing LIVE in front of people, shifting the focus from publishing albums.

Shayan finds “ life “ as her first master, muse, and influence, but she admits her debt of learning so much from too many musicians from the past and the present too, who had been a great company and influence on her musicality, such as Shahnaz Rahmatullah, Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Hemonto Mukherjee, Nikhil Banerjee, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Rabindronath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam,

Buddadeb Basu , Shumon Chattapaddhyay , Bhupen Hazarika , Farida khanum , Mehdi Hassan and many more .
