Julanie J's career took off in 2016 with the release of her album Spirit Breakout, which soared on international charts within 24 hours, reaching Top 20 on the iTunes International Chart and securing the 3rd spot on South Africa’s local charts. At just 21, she signed a major deal with Warner Music South Africa. In July 2019, she released her debut Afrikaans single, “Dalk is Ek,” quickly gaining recognition. People magazine hailed her as “South Africa’s new pop princess,” and Huisgenoot magazine highlighted her as an exciting newcomer. In 2021, her hit single “Arm” dominated the JacarandaFM CTM Top 20 for nearly 10 months, holding the No. 1 position for an impressive 20 weeks. Since going independent in 2022, J has been prolific, releasing numerous singles and continuing to create new music. She says, “I am inspired by people and their stories. I live to write and be obnoxiously observant. There’s so much happening around us, and by just noticing detail, life becomes more intriguing.”
